Anna Pavlova and Yulia Lozhechko back in competition!
Many gymnastics fans were heartbroken when Anna Pavlova, one of the most beautiful, beloved, and underscored gymnasts of the last decade, tore her ACL on a beam dismount at the 2008 DTB Cup

My thoughts on the American Cup…Part 1
Much has been said about the outstanding men’s field at this year’s American Cup. I’d have to agree. We’ve got some of the most exciting all-around competitors from all over the world, not to mention the two gymnasts whom most would call America’s very best right now.
It’s exciting to see things finally starting to take shape again in women’s gymnastics after a bit of a crazy 2009. We had numerous gymnasts injured, numerous gymnasts in between retiring and making “comebacks,” a bit of a weak national championships and world championships as a result of the age rule, and some strange new rules to deal with.
Wow. This is truly a landmark day in women’s gymnastics…though I wish it were for a different reason. I’m sure many of you have read (or will very soon read) about the FIG ruling that Dong Fangxiao was, in fact, underage at both the 1999 world championships and 2000 Olympics
Eight great pommel horse workers from the 2010 Winter Cup…
USA Men becoming stronger on pommel horse? After taking a look at some videos from the recent Winter Cup, I’d say the answer is a resounding YES!!!
Aly Raisman the second gymnast for American Cup? I think it’s possible. After a couple posters reminded me, I did realize that there are some gymnasts who were juniors last year who will be turning 16 this year, and thus are now “seniors” and eligible for the world team.
As usual, Marta is waiting until the very last minute to tell a gymnast she’s going to compete in a major competition. While I know Marta likes to pick gymnasts who seem to be “hot” at the exact right time – sometimes almost down to the day – I really don’t agree with the way she does this.
I’ve taken all of the D-scores that Brooks and Horton received at the recent Winter Cup (using the highest one given between the two days), and compared the two gymnasts’ scoring potential on paper. Here were the results
Well I was pleasantly surprised upon returning from Cambodia to see that Chris Brooks did end up winning the Winter Cup. I say “pleasantly” because it is always exciting to see a new gymnast step up and win a major title – especially ahead of a gymnast whom many consider to be our best
My medical mission trip to Cambodia was awesome! This trip finished off my medical school experience, and I’ll now be heading off to residency in family practice in just a few months.
