Jesolo Videos!
You may have heard by now about the results of the recent Trophy Jesolo competition in Jesolo, Italy, but I’ve just found some videos up in the last couple of days. Here’s a look at some of the highlights I’ve come across so far:
You may have heard by now about the results of the recent Trophy Jesolo competition in Jesolo, Italy, but I’ve just found some videos up in the last couple of days. Here’s a look at some of the highlights I’ve come across so far:
Now that I’ve told you the 14 qualities I look for in a young boy I’m evaluating for competitive gymnastics, I’ll share some of the specific ways I look for and test for each of these qualities
One of my favorite things to do as a coach has always been “testing” young kids to be on the competitive team. I’ve always coached boys for the most part, and thus this testing process has typically entailed taking a 5, 6, or 7-year-old boy and trying to decide if he has enough potential to be invited to the competitive team
If you’re a gymnastics coach, you immediately know what I mean when I use the word “balk.” It can be a coach’s worst nightmare. A gymnast develops a fear of a skill – sometimes a completely irrational one – and one time becomes scared enough to actually abort the skill before even attempting it
Last weekend I had the opportunity to watch the first ever Georgia boys’ state team finals – a separate day of competition for the top six Level 5 and Level 6 boys’ teams. I’ve heard of girls at those levels having state team finals, but I had never heard of such a concept on the boys’ side. This is how it worked:
I’ve got links to more videos…thanks to RussianCup2009’s YouTube channel! There are way more videos than these, but I decided to pick out some ones from the senior team finals as well as the junior all-around. Some good stuff! I’ll give some general thoughts at the end
I don’t have complete results yet, but I did already find some videos up of both Anna Pavlova and Viktoria Komova from the first day of the Russian Championships. Unfortunately the videos can’t be embedded into this post, so I’ll have to just link to them. Here we go:
My thoughts on the American Cup…Part 2
Many gymnastics fans were heartbroken when Anna Pavlova, one of the most beautiful, beloved, and underscored gymnasts of the last decade, tore her ACL on a beam dismount at the 2008 DTB Cup
My thoughts on the American Cup…Part 1
Much has been said about the outstanding men’s field at this year’s American Cup. I’d have to agree. We’ve got some of the most exciting all-around competitors from all over the world, not to mention the two gymnasts whom most would call America’s very best right now.
It’s exciting to see things finally starting to take shape again in women’s gymnastics after a bit of a crazy 2009. We had numerous gymnasts injured, numerous gymnasts in between retiring and making “comebacks,” a bit of a weak national championships and world championships as a result of the age rule, and some strange new rules to deal with.
